Our Current Director

Elaine Barnes

Counterpoint's current Director is Elaine Barnes, who has taken on the role from the beginning of 2026, and previously held the role from 2018 until 2021.  She has also assisted us by acting in the role of Guest Conductor for recent concerts while we have been without a permanent Director.

The Director is:
* the principal conductor and musical director of Counterpoint Chamber Choir
* selects and makes decisions as to repertoire, assisted by the Management Committee
* selects and appoints any assistant conductors, accompanists, repetiteurs, trainers or like personnel required, subject to approval of any financial commitment by the Management Committee
* in association with other members of Counterpoint Chamber Choir, as chosen by the Director, audition potential members and appoint members of Counterpoint Chamber Choir.
The Director is also, ex-officio a member of the Management Committee.

We look forward to working with and learning from Elaine and using her extensive musical skills and interests, including her composition capacity, to extend our visions and performance ability.
